Connecting Communities: The Role of Routine Roads Maintenance in unlocking access to social services and decent employment’’.
The International Labour Organization Country Director for the United Republic of Tanzania, Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda Ms Caroline Mugalla Khamati will feature among the top officials at the launch of the Community Based Routine Maintenance (CBRM) initiative at Four Points By Sheraton Hotel (previously New Africa Hotel), Dar es Salaam, on November 26, 2024 with the theme ‘’ Connecting Communities: The Role of Routine Roads Maintenance in unlocking access to social services and decent employment’’.

The CBRM, which is a component of the country’s flagship Roads to Inclusion and Socio-economic Opportunities (RISE) project, seeks to address sustainable remedies to rural road maintenance challenges by putting local communities at centre of the solution.
The ILO Director is expected to provide her remarks on the ILO’s contribution to the country’s infrastructural development challenges and highlight the partnerships it has forged with local authorities to address the challenge.
The ILO has been offering technical assistance in the design, planning, implementation and monitoring of routine maintenance using Community-Based Routine Maintenance (CBRM) model as part of the component of the Roads to Inclusion and Socio-Economic Opportunities (RISE) Project.
It also is committed to continue working with the government of Tanzania under the leadership of President, H.E Mama Samia Suluhu Hassan in accelerating Decent Work for all through quality jobs and improved access to social protection and livelihoods resulted by quality delivery of services by improved enterprises.
A high-level delegation from Government of Tanzania, Development Partners, Embassies and UN agencies are expected to grace the event with Minister of State, Prime Minister's Office (Labour, Employment, Youth, and Persons with Disability), Hon. Ridhiwani Jakaya Kikwete (MB), Minister of State, President’s Office, Regional Administration and Local Government, Hon. Mohamed Omary Mchengerwa (MB), and the Minister for Works, Hon. Innocent Bashungwa (MB). Other remanent speakers will include the Chief Executive for Tanzania Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA), Chief Executive Officer for Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS), TUCTA Secretary General, Comrade Heri Mkunda and ATE Chief Executive Officer Advocate Suzane Ndomba. In addition, representatives from the UN Agencies such as UNICEF WFP and FAO as well as representative from World Bank; Swiss Embassy; Norwegian Embassy; Swedish Embassy; JICA; UKAID and EU and media are also expected to attend the event.
