Strengthening the capacities of business organisations

ACT/EMP helps to promote strong, independent and representative employers' and business membership organisations (EBMOs). Its activity focuses on capacity development in three main areas:
1. The adoption of a strategic approach to organisational development and management.
2. Improving services to bring value to current and potential members; and 3.
3. Strengthening the political influence of EBMOs through evidence-based research and effective communication capacity.

It focuses on strengthening the key elements of institutional capacity that EBMOs need to promote their value to members and fulfil their mandates as representative organisations aimed at promoting the interests of their member companies.

ACT/EMP also works closely with the Programme for Employers' Activities of the International Training Centre of the ILO (ITC-ILO), based in Turin. Through this programme, and in close collaboration with the Employers' Group, ACT/EMP offers training and experience-sharing opportunities to EOs in a wide range of areas ranging from labour to social and economic issues. These opportunities are crucial to develop the capacity of EOs and enterprises to play an effective role as social partners and to participate in shaping the national policy agenda.
