Tinabangay: Social protection registration in Siargao
Over a hundred workers in the informal economy will gain access to social protection and employment services in Siargao Island in the Philippines through a one-stop services registration.
The International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) will hold a one-stop services registration on social protection and employment services for over a hundred informal workers in agro-fishery, tourism industry, digital freelance, and micro and small enterprises in Siargao.
The initiative, part of the ILO's Rise from multiple crises through the integrated formalization of informal economy and Rebuilding Better Coconut Economy projects, aims to transition informal sector workers and enterprises to the formal economy.
Dubbed “Tinabangay,” meaning “helping together” in the local dialect, the event will take place in the tourism hub of General Luna. It will feature a one-stop services registration based on the ILO Single Window Service Model, which integrates social protection and employment services from various government agencies.
PhilHealth, Pag-IBIG, the Social Security System (SSS), and local government units will provide information sessions and registration services. The event will also offer learning sessions on accessing local employment programmes, livelihood assistance, and technical vocational training through DOLE, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), and the Public Employment Service Office (PESO).
This joint ILO and DOLE initiative organized in collaboration with Lokal Lab will further educate workers on the benefits of social protection and facilitate their registration. It will also promote entrepreneurship and employment facilitation, providing a seamless and efficient registration process with support from national and local government partners.
The ILO's Regular Budget Supplementary Account (RBSA) supported the initiative, which included Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and Spain as core voluntary funders to promote decent work and expand social protection.
