The ILO and the Multilateral System

The multilateral system, with the United Nations at its core, supports countries in their endeavours to lasting peace and achieve sustainable development.

Within the UN system, as a specialized agency, the ILO champions social justice by setting international labor standards, fostering tripartite dialogue among governments, employers, and workers, and promoting Decent Work as a cornerstone of sustainable development.

The ILO also extends its influence beyond the United Nations framework by cooperating with international financial institutions, regional groupings, the G7, the G20, and the BRICs to promote policy coherence on decent work issues, recognizing the strong, complex, and crucial links between social, trade, financial, economic and environmental policies.
